This annual University of London lecture celebrates the life and work of Andrei Nikolaevich Kolmogorov, one of the greatest mathematical and scientific minds of the last century. The lecture addresses current issues arising from the impact of Kolmogorov’s work in the fields of mathematical and computer science. Each Kolmogorov Lecture is given by one of the leading figures in their field, who is presented with a medal in recognition of their own contribution to science.
We are proud to announce that the 2007 lecture will be presented by Professor Yakov Sinai. Professor Sinai's lecture is entitled 'Renormalization Group Theory in Probability and Analysis.'
Abstract: Renormalization Group Theory (RGT) is closely connected with the concept of self-similar random processes which were introduced by Kolmogorov seventy years ago. In this talk I shall outline the basic notions of RGY and show its applications in probability theory and the theory of 3D-Navier-Stokes system.
The talk and medal presentation will be immediately followed by a wine reception in Royal Holloway's Picture Gallery. To reserve your space, please contact Amanda Baker.
